At the heart of The Wellness Space is a desire to create more than just a studio. Alongside Reformer Pilates and wellness experiences, there is a genuine focus on connection, community, and helping people feel welcome from the moment they walk through the door. Whether you're taking your first class, returning to movement, or simply looking for a moment of calm in your week, you'll find a supportive environment designed to meet you where you are and encourage you to move at your own pace.
Nestled within the surroundings of Dalkeith Country Park, The Wellness Space was created as somewhere people can step away from the demands of everyday life and make time for themselves. A place where movement feels supportive rather than intimidating, and where wellbeing is approached with warmth, balance, and care.

THE TEAM
Behind every class, event, and experience is a team passionate about helping people move well, feel supported, and enjoy the journey. Meet the people who make The Wellness Space what it is.
SEAN YOUNG
I began my teaching journey 18 years ago as a Body Balance instructor, and since then I have gained my Diploma in Pilates and, more recently, my Reformer Pilates qualification.
I am passionate about helping people discover what their bodies are capable of and love seeing clients challenge themselves, build confidence, and achieve things they never thought possible. I enjoy incorporating a variety of equipment into my classes to keep sessions fresh, engaging, and fun.
I strongly believe that movement has incredible benefits for both our physical and mental wellbeing, and that exercise should be accessible to everyone, regardless of age, ability, or experience level. Creating a welcoming and supportive environment is at the heart of everything I do.
For me, fitness is about much more than exercise alone. It's about community, connection, and having a good laugh along the way. My aim is for every class to be challenging, inclusive, and enjoyable, leaving you feeling stronger, happier, and glad you came.
Anna Baker
Anna is a specialist rehabilitation exercise instructor with a background in biochemistry and a strong interest in cancer recovery. She delivers Pilates sessions that support strength, confidence, and connection at a time when the body may feel unfamiliar or unpredictable. Classes are intelligently structured and adaptable, allowing participants to modify, rest, or progress movements based on how they feel on the day.
Her approach is rooted in evidence-based exercise, lived experience, and a deep respect for the body’s resilience. Having supported someone close to her through cancer, Anna has seen first-hand how movement can preserve strength, independence, and quality of life — and she believes that exercise can offer not just physical benefits, but meaningful time, presence, and connection.
These sessions offer a supportive, empowering space to move with confidence, rebuild trust in the body, and reconnect with personal strength. No previous Pilates experience is required.
Sophie Newman
Sophie discovered yoga four years ago and fell in love with the sense of balance and calm the practice gave her. Sophie’s love for yoga led her to pursue her teaching certificate which she gained last year.
Sophie will be guiding Yin Yoga classes, creating a welcoming and supportive space for students to slow down, soften, and reconnect with themselves. Her intention is to offer moments of stillness and peace amidst the business and chaos of everyday life, encouraging students to pause, breathe, and simply be.
Through gentle guidance and a calming presence, Sophie hopes her classes provide an opportunity for rest and reflection, helping students to leave feeling more grounded, centred, and at ease.
Rachel Chapman
Rachel's class focuses on calm, mindful movement, helping you reconnect with your body, in a peaceful and supportive space, no matter your experience level. Whether you're completely new to Pilates or already familiar with the practice, Rachel encourages gentle strength, ease and awareness so everyone leaves feeling relaxed, balanced and more connected.
Stephanie Proudfoot
Stephanie is a STOTT-trained Pilates instructor with a background as an Oncology Specialist Nurse, a role she has proudly held for the past 13 years. After beginning her own Pilates journey and experiencing the physical and mental benefits of regular practice, she was inspired to train as an instructor, completing her Reformer training in 2025 and most recently her Mat Pilates qualification.
Stephanie is passionate about helping people discover Pilates in a way that feels welcoming, supportive and enjoyable. She loves seeing clients grow in confidence, move more freely, and experience the positive impact Pilates can have on everyday life.
Her classes focus on building strong foundations, developing strength and body awareness, and offering options to suit different abilities. With a friendly, encouraging teaching style and plenty of fun along the way, Stephanie creates an environment where everyone feels comfortable to move, learn and progress at their own pace.
Maija McKerrow
I grew up in Central Finland, surrounded by nature and an active outdoor lifestyle. From early age, movement was a natural part of my life, and I developed a passion for endurance sports and challenging myself physically. After moving to Scotland and becoming a mum of two, my relationship with exercise began to change. As a busy stay-at-home mum, I found that the fitness routines that had once worked so well for me no longer supported my body or my lifestyle. Following a difficult birth, I experienced muscular imbalances and persistent lower back pain, while demands of motherhood left little time for long workouts and recovery.
That’s when I found Pilates.
Pilates offered exactly what I needed: a supportive, accessible form of movement that helped me rebuild strength, improve stability, and reconnect with my body. Even short sessions left me feeling stronger, more balanced, and mentally focused. As I continue my Pilates journey, I experience how powerful mindful movement can be, not only for physical wellbeing but also for confidence and everyday life.
Today I am passionate about helping others experience the same benefits. My teaching focuses on building strength, improving movement quality, and supporting clients at every stage of their fitness journey. Whether you’re returning to exercise, managing aches and pains or looking to improve athletic performance, Pilates offers you a sustainable way to move and feel your best. I aim to create welcoming, effective classes that help you feel stronger, more capable, and confident in your body.
I believe movement should support your life- not compete with it, and Pilates has shown me how transformative that can be.
LYNN
With 36 years of experience in the fitness industry, I’ve had the pleasure of teaching a wide variety of exercise classes and helping people feel stronger, healthier and more confident in themselves.
I’m passionate about both physical and mental wellbeing, and I truly believe that movement should be something you enjoy and feel good about. I love getting to know my clients, supporting their individual goals and being part of their personal growth and journey.
I’m so excited to be starting this new chapter at the Wellness space as a Reformer Pilates instructor and can’t wait to help you build strength, confidence and a positive connection with your body
NICO
I’m Nico, a qualified Mat and Reformer Pilates instructor with a real passion for helping people feel stronger, more confident and more connected to their bodies through movement.
Alongside teaching Pilates, I work within the NHS as an Anaesthetic Practitioner, so caring for and supporting people has always been a big part of who I am. My classes are welcoming, inclusive and focused on moving with intention — building strength, mobility and control, without the pressure for everything to be perfect.
Outside of Pilates, I love keeping fit and I’m currently trying my best to become a better runner — definitely a work in progress! I’m also a big believer in balance, so you’ll rarely have to ask me twice if there’s good coffee and a pastry involved.
More than anything, I want my classes to be somewhere you can switch off, enjoy moving your body and leave feeling better than when you arrived. Whether you’re completely new to Pilates or have been practising for years, you’ll always be welcome in my class.
